SCSS Middle School Math

Welcome to Middle School Math

At SCSS, our middle school math program is designed to prepare our students for success in high school and beyond. Each of our six distinct classes offers rigorous and carefully planned lessons to help our students master the fundamentals and to challenge them - from the 6th grade level through Algebra I. Students are encouraged to view the middle school years as the ramp up to their high school math courses, where they will rely on these same skills as the foundation for Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry, Statistics, and Calculus.

Math classes at SCSS are approximately 10-15 students, allowing for individualized learning and support. We stress the importance of note taking skills, homework completion, class participation, and listening to peers’ questions in class. Students have a hardcover textbook as well as an “ebook” and online resources through Big Ideas Math.

As many of our students will attend Catholic high schools, in the Fall we offer a weekly after school HSPT prep class for our 8th grade students. This provides specific test taking strategies and practice on the math and quantitative skills needed for the entrance exam.
